MSN Messenger Display Name

I am trying to change the display name in Windows Messenger Version 4.7, but
the Display name is greyed out. I have tried everything I can think of to
change it w/ no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Are you signed in to Messenger service? Are you using .NET Messenger
service or one of the others. You must be signed in to .NET Messenger
service to change your display name for that service. I don't know if
you can change your display name if using one of the other services (SIP
or Exchange).

You might try posting this to the Messenger newsgroup, available at
