I have several computers, including 1 server, that will no
longer instal or remove programs using MSI. It appears
that a program has started an installation but never
completed it and the MSI 'thinks' it still has a task to
complete but does not prompt to complete. All attempts to
replace and repair the file have failed (I have followed
the instructions in the tech bulletins). I can remove the
files while in safe mode - but the new installer needs MSI
to be able to instal the new MSI (go figure!). My only
resolve has been to use the Win2k repair facility on OS
instal CD. But of course this kicks everything back to
grass roots and I have to re-instal SP4 etc. Any / all
ideas are welcome. FYI - the offending software was
COmmand Antivirus!

I am anxiously awaiting the answer on this, too. I am having the exac
same problem. I think mine was started with Norton. Someone i
another thread told me to download and run the Windows Installe
Directory cleaner. I haven't done so yet, but will post here if i
works.

PLease let me know if you have any success - I am looking
at other ways to handle this issue as it will probably
happen again as we have over 12mths with our current
contract on the Command Software!
