I heard that there is actually only 7 programs needed in the startup, when
you type msconfig and go to secelective startup. My computer takes forever
to get booted up, can anyone help me what programs for startup are needed?

Thank you

Untick the lot, then retick them selectively until you can
isolate the one that slows down the machine during the
boot phase.

vivienrose1,

For me it's any application that needs attention after windows starts
without user intervention. For instance, my Virus Scanner's internet monitor
or Microsoft's Antispyware monitors or a Popup blocker. Also, my Yahoo POP3
e-mail app for Outlook Express (YPops) and my IEMaximizer for IE. That's it.
I use MSWord & Adobe Acrobat every day but don't need either to startup
until I click a document to open.
You should evaluate each of your installed applications and ask yourself,
'can I still use this normally if it didn't start up on boot. You'll find
there aren't many that do, at least I don't.

Here is a suggestion. Install Microsoft Windows Defender. Look at the Home
Screen. Under Tools, you will see Software Explorer. Inside that, you will
see Startup Programs. You can Google to identify these programs to decide
which ones are not needed on startup. You can disable these using Software
Explorer. I use only the Windows Defender and the Computer Associates
Internet Security Suite at startup. That is just six programs. The computer
begins to load the first internet site in 48 seconds from a cold start.
