can anyone please tell me how to disable most of the
programs in "system configuration", normal startup.

I have run msconfig then gone into selective startup,un-
ticked several programs but it seems that unless i stay
in selective startup mode and put up with the prompt
screen everytime i fire up the pc it keeps reverting back
to normal startup and loading all these programs which
make the computer run like a slug. Help!

you should be able to choose not to show the message
every time, that's what i do. it should be a check box
every time the message appears. and you'll always be in
selective startup. you can also edit a file to change
it...i think it's either config.sys or boot.ini. try
looking at both of those. but i always just do selective
startup.

Download and install Mike Lin's free program Startup
Control Panel. Cameron's advice will also work.
