msconfig fails to start

I've look at previous posts on this problem and can't seem to get
msconfig to run anymore.

I have done a complete virus scan.
I have downloaded several different versions of msconfig, but none seem
to do anything.

This worked only 1 week ago, and all I've done since then is update
internet explorer, it seems...

Any ideas?

No error message?

That doesn't mean too much. If malware takes advantage of your
administrative(!) privileges while installing and therefore being
capable to bypass system tools like MSCONFIG, it may easily bypass any
anti-virus software as well.

And what happens when you try to open Msconfig? Error messages? What
versions of msconfig have you downloaded? There is only one msconfig that I
know of.

What happens if you go to Start | Run | regedit, click ok. Does it start?
Can you open task manager - right click a blank area of the taskbar, and
select task manager.

If neither of these will run then it's a malware infection.

Thanks for the hints!

I have downloaded and installed this update... no problemo... Now when
I try to run msconfig from start/run/msconfig, it tells me that
"Windows can't find msconfig..."

By the way, regedit and windows task mgr both work fine.

I am at a loss...

Thanks for any more ideas...

Well, I've tried and tried but there seems to be no way to get
msconfig back into action. Iinstalled the extended version of msconfig
listed above, it installed fine but won't execute. Even from a cmd
window with full file path...

Please help me!

Using search look for all the occurrences of msconfig on the system. Where
are they located? Right click on the each of them and click properties.
Check on the details tab too, what is the size and version?

Go to start | run, type in cmd, click ok. At the command line type path.
What shows?

What is the malware status of the computer? Have you done a thorough check
for malware?
