yes, it's a well known bug, still present also in the latest build. I hope
new build will be released as soon possible

Uninstall the app, then delete the entire MSAS folder from c:\program files,
reboot, and then reinstall the app. You mighy have to use the Windows
Install Clean Up utility
(http://download.microsoft.com/download/e/9/d/e9d80355-7ab4-45b8-80e8-983a48d5e1bd/msicuu2.exe)
to remove the Windows Installer files associated with MSAS, and then
reinstall the app. At times somethings get corrupted. Just remember this is
a beta product, not a fine-tuned finished product. Because of this, these
types of issues are bound to come up when beta testing any new app,
regardless of who develops it. FYI: MS didn't develop this app, they
acquired it when they bought out Giant Company. So if you want to blame
someone, blame Giant Company since they developed the app, which has been
renamed Microsoft Windows AntiSpyware. The only changes to the app have been
changing the references to Giant Company to that of Microsoft Corporation,
and removing the functionality of Tracks Eraser since MS wanted to get user
feedback before deciding how to go about dealing with cookies and other
privacy issues.

I'm not at all sure this problem is fixed by this recipe. This prescription
will fix issues caused by corruption in the .GCD files that record
preferences and history, etc, but I believe that the issue of:

1) turning off real-time protection via the tray applet,
2) shutting down the machine, and
3) restarting and finding that real-time protection is still shut down

is the way it works--i.e. a bug, or product limitation, or whatever you want
to call it!

This can't help because the bug is in MSAS. Only a new build can resolve it!

I agree with you Franz, imagine you turnoff your firewall reboot and it stays
off.
