MS VPN keeps popping up

I have on this machine a VPN connection that connects to a remote network
using the MS VPN.

Now, all of a sudden, this VPN icon, with name and password keep popping up
(instead of an IE window or other application).

No problem working around, but what went wrong?

Just some horrible spyware/malware/trojan my PC picked up. Gone now.
