MS Outlook to Windows Mail

I am having trouble transferring any messages and contacts from Outlook 2002
to my Windows mail account. I used the Easy tranfer for everything else and
it worked great but no luck on the email.

I've also tried to save as pst files but that doesn't seem to work either.
When I try to import from Outlook I get a MAPI error.

Saving as a CSV file or dbx doesn't seem to be an option... Any ideas out
there? Thanks in advance.

The answer below assumes that one has Outlook for Vista...

I'm having the same problem as Ryan. I had Outlook 2003 on Windows XP. I
now have a new computer with WIndows Vista. I would like to import the
Outlook data into Windows Mail, but get the same MAPI error.

I just spent an hour on the same problem. You must load outlook to solve
this. Dumb eh? I downloaded the trial version of Office 2007 - This imported
everything that I transferred into Outlook. Then I exported a file from
outlook and imported into Windows mail. Once everything transferred, I
uninstalled the trial version of outlook. Time consuming but it worked like
a champ!

Thanks Peri, I'll give it a shot. Did you have to re-transfer from XP after
loading the trial version? Do I also go through the whole process of settinhg
up the new Outlook as my email program?

Yes, it seems a bit silly but better than the alternative of forwarding
yourself all the emails you want to keep ;-)

This is absolutely insane! Why do I need to go through all of this to
transfer contacts from one Microsoft product to another Microsoft product.
The developers HAD to know almost everyone using Windows Mail in Vista would
want to bring files over from the other Microsoft programs.

Export the contacts as a CSV file and then you can import them into Vista
from that.

Okay, I did all of this. It seems like it is successful, and tells me that
my contacts have been imported, but when I go to contacts, they are not
there. I did try a restart to see if that was necessary after the import,
but no change. Any ideas???
