MS OUTLOOK LOCKSUP SYSTEM

Frequently when I log in to Windows and select e-mail(MS Outlook), then click
on send/receive the first message will start downloading and the system will
lockup. I am unable to clear MS Outlook, even going thru the task manager. I
have to manually shut down with the power button, and reboot the system.
This happens every four or five log-ins.
System is a Sony Vaio, with WINXP home SP2, 512MB.
