MS Office 2003 Outlook with Vista Home Premium stops working

After months of successfully using Outlook 2003 with Vista HP I now am told
that the application "has stopped working." Vista does not find a solution
to this problem and the program closes. Has anyone encountered this problem
and found a solution?

I have the same problem. I purchased an HP dv9820 laptop with Windows Vista
Home version about 10 days ago and I installed my copy of Microsoft Office
2003. It was working fine until yesterday. Then while I was typing an email,
I got a message 'Microsoft Office Word has stopped working' then 'Windows is
checking for a solution to the problem, this might take a few minutes' then
'Microsoft Office Word is trying to recover your information' then 'Microsoft
Office Word has stopped working, a problem caused the programme to stop
working correctly, Windows will notify you if a solution to the problem is
found' 'Windows will close the programme' .. which it did. When I tried to
reopen the recovered document, it just did the same thing every time I opened
Word. When I deselected Word as the email editor, it just did the same with
Outlook, this time 'Microsoft Outlook has stopped working etc etc' and closed
that too. Then it did the same when I opened Microsoft Word 2007 trial
version, and then the same with Microsoft Works, it closed these programmes
down too in the same way. I tried writing a note in Notepad in Accessories
and that worked at first but after a while it closed that down too after
telling me it wasn't working. I went into Internet Explorer and it then said
that Internet Explorer had stopped working and closed that down too even
though it was connected to a website and was clearly working perfectly. I
eventually had to do a system restore back to factory settings as nothing
would work, as Vista kept closing everything down. All my programs seemed to
stop working, although I don't think they had stopped working, I think Vista
thinks they had stopped working and so closed them down, but they had
actually been working fine. I think Vista is deluded, possibly paranoid, and
behaving like Hal in 2001 A Space Odyssey; it thinks, or wants to think,
that these programmes have stopped working and is taking over control, but
they haven't really. I haven't loaded Office 2003 onto my laptop after the
system restore because I thought this was the problem, however on reading
this message board, it seems to me that this same problem of closing down
programmes which have apparently stopped working is happening with Vista and
Office 2003; Vista and Office 2007; and Vista and Internet explorer, so I am
expecting the same thing to happen when I load Office 2007. There are
numerous solutions suggested but it seems to me that this is a Vista problem
and so trying multiple fixes such as add-ins or deselecting bluetooth
something or other is not going to solve what is clearly a major problem with
the Vista software.

I am tempted to take my new laptop back and ask for a refund and get out my
old XP. Sorry I don't have a solution, but wanted to let you know that I have
the same problem...just had to get that off my chest...

I've been having this very same problem all over the place. Actually in
Outlook and Internet Explorer which is very very very annoying. For Outlook I
found out if I removed http email accounts like hotmail, then it works fine.
Only imap seems not to cause any problem, which is quite useless as you use
outlook so that you can have all your emails together not having to log in
into them all one by one!
