MS JAVA crashes

I have a new computer with all Windows XP updates. Java script crashes
frequently, especially on eBay. How can I fix this wonderful program? Can I
reinstall it without completely reinstalling Windows XP?

go here i did after i reinstalled my xo ob a new hd u may get error 1722
when installing sun java get the
j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe file not the
j2re-1_4_2_04-windows-i586-p.exe once u installed that then inftal the newer
one & take the 03 out or you get error 1722. also make sure you delete all i
mean all files in your temp directories under c:\documents & settings\User
name\Local Settings\Temp (delete all) also in c:\windows
temp also.

make sure you have all files showing & hidden files also so u can see the
local temp directory.

I been @ it for 4 hours & driving me nutz till i was told this.
