ms exchange sendmail protocol

Hi all,

Does MS Exchange use SMTP as its outgoing mailing protocol?
Or it uses IMAP? Does an application supporting SMTP work with
MS exchange in sending email without any problem?

But:
Yes, exchange uses SMTP and can be uses in combination with almost any email
program.
