MS Equation 3.0

I have used MS equation 3.0 (MS Office Pro 2003) for long time but today
something rare happened to me. I was trying to edit an equation using MS
Equation 3.0. I double clicked the icon and the software opened and I edit my
equation. When I closed the window the equation that I just edited did not
display in the Word file. An empty box is what the Word file displays. If
double click the empty box the equation appears telling me that the equation
is there but does not display in the Word file. Please help solve this
problem.

Tools > options > view > uncheck 'picture placeholders'.
