MS anti-spyware definition problem

It's just unbelieveable week after week after week MS can not get the
definition problem fixed. It seems obvious they don't even test whether the
definitions will download and install correctly.

Thanks Bill. About 2 hours ago I tried it again and it downloaded & installed
them correctly. It seems like they got the problem fixed. I just wish they
would fix it before they released them instead of after the release.

Bill, I was just wondering if any of these update queries relate to after
doing an update the definitions file doesnt update untill you close and then
re-open MSAS.At least that is how it works on my machine.

I'm getting 144/142 on the diagnostics on every machine I've tried today--so
it isn't perfect yet.

What changes, in the course of closing and reopening MSAS--i.e. what do you
see that changes?

I'm not sure of the answer--it isn't supposed to work this way--i.e. right
after a manual or autoupdate, going to Help, about,. diagnostics should show
142/142 or whatever the current numbers are. Whether the defs are actually
loaded and in use, I am not certain of--but I suspect that they are. So--I
guess I'm saying that it shouldn't be working the way you are observing.

Now--one possible explanation for your observation is that I believe that
the program does a check for updates now as part of the loading
process--this accounts for a good many observed hangs. It may be that you
are getting a partial update, which is then completing properly on the
second time through as you restart the program after exiting it.

Sorry I should have been more specific. What I was refering to was on the main
page of MSAS under System Summary,Spyware Definitions and the date displayed
there. For example after downloading the latest def's the date displayed was
still December 31st.It wasnt until I closed and re-opened the program did the
date change to January 6.

I am now getting a date of 1-5-06 and 144/144 on my definitions on the
diagnostics.

Ah--yes--I've heard others make that observation. (I'm not real good at
such observations myself...)--I think you are describing what happens
accurately, but I'm not sure what it means--I think that this is probably
just a UI refresh issue, rather than something deeper.

144/144 (or at least equal numbers) are what you want to see--that's a good
result.

Bill, I agree, but,it is really a question of how other users see that.I
mean, they do a download (which downloads correctly),but the info they see on
the screen in front of them does not indicate that a download has been
successfull,if you see what I mean.

OK - I can "see" that. I've always gone to Help, about to see what versions
are loaded--and I've known for at least 11 months that the appearance there
wasn't accurate.
