MS Anti Spy - Critical Error 101

After re-installing MS Anti Spy Beta on a new hard drive, it will not start.
I get critical error 101 message in which I am told to restart. Then, if
the problem persists, un-install the software, download a new copy from MS
and re-install.

Following these instructions still results in the error. Does anyone have
any idea on how to fix this? Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

I tried everything - google, ms forums, etc., etc. Batch files, repairs,
uninstall, reinstall. So after hours of work, I decided the smartest thing
was to just take it off the PC. No more error 101. By the way, this is XP
Home on an HP Pavillion 7955 - and it is the only software that won't run on
this PC. You gotta know when it's time to give up...
