MS Access transfer to different machine

I have had MS Access 2007 installed on my desktop. I no longer want it on
there but do want to use it on my laptop.
I uninstalled from the desktop. I then attempt to install on the laptop but
the installation fails with:
Error 2203. An internal error has occurred. (C:Windows/Installer/6ed99.ipi
-2147287035)

Both machines are running Windows Vista Home Premium and have MS Office
Student version installed.

Any thoughts?

Access doesn't come with Office Student version does it?

_WHICH_ office student version do you have?

There are now 2 different versions of the academic level, right?

Since you've already installed/activated the product on 1 machine, you will
not be able to use it on another without contacting Microsoft for
permission. I suggest that you do that first.

You might try uninstalling Access from the second machine and trying it
again. The error you mention is normally caused by an Office installation,
more particularly Office XP. You may have some problem uninstalling Access
2007 with an earlier version of Office because certain dll's won't match.

Then I'd just format and reinstall both machines.
Sorry

Vista and Office 2007 are not fully baked.. If you didn't get that
note.

Ignore Aaron. He makes an occasional valid point, but his main mission is
to bad-mouth Access. Review his postings if you wish to see the pattern for
yourself.

Thanks for this - your comment about problems resulting from uninstalling
Access are certainly true - but I have now repaired the Office installation
and all seems well so far........

Contacting Microsoft for installing on a different machine? - oh dear - have
you any idea of just how appalling that prospect is - which number, how much,
how many hours hanging on being passed from person to person. All I did was
to purchase a product and now i can't use it.

Thanks for your help.

Bruce;

Do you know anything about Windows or Office?

When things won't work-- format and reinstall.

It's called 'Windows Tax'-- Microsoft just takes your time and flushes
it down the drain once a month.. and we're all just supposed to sit
idly by and accept this junk. You kids accept this flakiness _ALL_
the time in MDB.

Personally-- I gave up on MDB a long time ago; I keep my data in SQL
Server.. and then if I need to edit it on 2 different machines-- even
at the same time-- it won't throw a tissy fit for me.

Because SQL Server _WORKS_.
Access databases aren't reliable enough for real world usage.

I wouldn't spin your wheels-- i'd format and reinstall.

I usually format my machines; maybe once a year?? Maybe I've got 3-4
boxes that I've not formatted in 5 years.

On the other hand; I don't run around installing 2 different versions
of Microsoft office... and I don't bang my head on the wall when
Windows throws a tissy fit.

Keep your chin up--format the machine.

INSTALL THE SOFTWARE IN THE CORRECT ORDER-- it should always go with
the _EARLIEST_ version and then the newer one.

So, reinstall Windows and then Office 2003 and then Access 2007.

Thanks

Now Activation isn't -THAT- bad is it?

I used to really get stressed about that kinda stuff; but i just can't
live without MSDN any longer.. I'm never going to go another way
without a MSDN license.
