Mplayer question / frames being dropped

N

No Such Luck

I have a quick question regarding mplayer (Windows). I have a Flash
Video file that is 109 seconds long, and 29.970 fps. From this, I would
guess that there were ~3267 frames in the video file. However, when I
run the command:

mplayer test.flv -vo png -nosound

Only 2726 frames are produced (a loss of nearly 17%), and I would like
to get all the frames. After examining the extracted frames, the
missing data seems to be evenly distributed throughout the entire video
(as opposed to the final 17%, etc.). Also, tweaking with the
compression level of the extracted frames can vary the number of frames
actually extracted as well.

A similar result happens with an mpg file I am using. However, using
mplayer on a 24.0 fps AVI file, all of the frames are extracted.

Can I successfully use mplayer to achieve my goal? If not, can someone
recommend another application that would suffice?

Any help is appreciated.

Not sure how to work around that in WMP but PowerDVD is a much
better player in many ways; it might fix your problem. You can
download a trial version for testing.
