Vide Encoders

I have just found this group so I don't know if you can help

I have 2 projects on the go at the moment.
1) Converting .mov and .avi to .swf or .flv for playing on the web.
I have tried Turbine Video Encoder for this and have posted my problems on another newsgroup, without resolving them all.

2) More important at this stage:
Converting .mov or .avi to play on a portable MP3/Video player

My .mov files are created by Kodak digital still cameras CX7330 and DX6490
My .avi files are created by ULead Software from MiniDV tape created on a Panasonic GS-35

The player specifies
.. Video supported:
.. Motion-JPEG in AVI format, 320x240@15fps; Motion-JPEG in MOV format, 320x240@15fps
.. MPEG-1: Resolution: 352x288@30fps; Format: MPG, DAT, VCD
.. MPEG-4: Resolution: 720x480@25fps / 640x480@30fps; Audio: AAC; Format: MP4, Simple Profile without 4MV
.. DivX-5.x: Resolution: 720x480@25fps / 640x480@30fps; Audio: MPEG-1 Layer III, AAC, ADCPM; Format: AVI
Remark: DivX-3.x/4.x unsupported

Does anyone know whether these formats are compatible with the .mov or ..avi files created by the Kodak and Panasonic cameras.
I have copied them onto the player and I get a message 'Unsupported file format', so it appears not.

From what I can gather, by trying to open the files in Turbine Video Encoder, the .mov file is 400x300, frame rate 12.0 fps with Mono 8.0 kHz 16 bit audio and the .avi file is 720x576, frame rate 25.0 fps with Stereo 32.0 kHz 16 bit audio.

Since the player will not play the .mov and .avi files directly, are there any conversion programs out here which will make them compatible?

Upgrade to QuickTime Pro and you'll be able to export MOV files as AVI
files.

Thank you Cari,

But will they be Motion-JPEG files in .avi (or .mov) format as required by
the MP3/Video Player?

I have already tried an .avi file created from a video camera, and this
doesn't play in the MP3/Video player.

At 15fps I think what it is really telling you that it is going to be a
'stuttering' movie, whatever you do with it. Film is normally 25 fps. It's
creating a series of still images and 'pretending' it's a proper video.

I might try a trial version of Adobe Premiere (www.adobe.com) which is just
about the best video editing software out there... but the learning curve is
steep and it is pricy. Tons of other applications... Nero, WinDVD Creator,
Roxio, TMPGEnc etc.

QuickTime Pro makes MOV and AVI files in various qualities... ranging from
really nice to absolutely terrible (but useful if the other person is on a
dial up connection)
