Mpeg to Avi conversion freeware?

Hi everybody.
I've recorded some television shows, but I need some software that can
convert my .MPEG's to .AVI. Do anybody know where I can find this kind
of freeware?
Well, if anybody knows about a MPEG-editor, that'll be fine too :-)

most of us want to convert avi files into mpegs, because mpegs are smaller
than avi files. any special reason ? ..J

That only converts AVI to MPG, not MPG to AVI.

To the original poster: MPG is smaller than AVI -- you don't need
to convert MPG to AVI. That's like converting a JPG to BMP: you
end up with a bigger file with the same quality. :)
