Mozilla Optimizer 1.6.1
http://www.computerbase.de/downloads/software/browser/mozilla_optimizer/

Mozilla Optimizer improves the browsing speed in
all browsers based on the Gecko Rendering Engine (GRE)
like Mozilla, Phoenix, Mozilla Firebird and
Mozilla Firefox as well as Netscape 6 and Netscape 7.
All optimizations can be applied manually, this tool
simply automates this procedure!

This is achieved by activating HTTP Pipelining so
that using a single connection to the webserver up
to 8 files can be requested directly after each other
without of having to wait for the delivery of the
last file requested. Furthermore some settings relevant
for the actual page display are optimized.

I didn't find one. From the readme:
"Mozilla Optimizer improves the browsing speed in all browsers based

It´s recommendable to use the newest version of your browser which is
available at: http://www.mozilla.org/. Should there arise any problems
due to the optimizations, you can revert them with a single click!"

This is what it changes user.js (somewhere in "profiles") to (also
from readme):

user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 100);
user_pref("content.notify.ontimer", true);
user_pref("content.notify.interval", 100000);
user_pref("content.notify.backoffcount", 5);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.proxy.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", 8);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections", 32);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 8);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 4);

Thanks, George. I'll give those prefs a try. Currently I don't have a
user.js file, but I've added the ChromEdit extension so it should be
easy to create one by adding those lines in the blank the extension
creates.

You can easly create a user.js file using Notepad. I guess the file
goes into the same folder as prefs.js file. I did this, and so far
it's rather difficult for me to discern whether or not it makes any
real difference in page loading speed.

Art,
Yes, I knew I could do this in Notepad. But that extension is just
about as easy to use and I already have it installed. Otherwise,
you're right, I would have used Notepad. And as far as the loading,
well.... it's kind of hard to tell if there's any improvement because
I have a fiber-optic cable connection and it's pretty fast already.
However, it may be my imagination but there are a couple of pages that
used to load kinda slow like and when I tried one just now it appeared
a lot more quickly than usual. Time will tell though. At least the
user.js lines don't seem to hurt anything.

Seems to help with a broadband connection, so far.

I've tried to download mozilla optimizer 1.61 several times, all
unsuccessfully. A few seconds ago, I got an eror message (star downloader)
comparable to file not found.

I posted it to alt.binaries.freeware. Look for subject: ATTN: Norman

Worked fine for me just now. Try it without the download manager - it's
only 228 kbs.

all what the optimizer does automatically is adding the following lines
in the user.js:

user_pref("nglayout.initialpaint.delay", 100);
user_pref("content.notify.ontimer", true);
user_pref("content.notify.interval", 100000);
user_pref("content.notify.backoffcount", 5);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.proxy.pipelining", true);
user_pref("network.http.pipelining.maxrequests", 8);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections", 32);
user_pref("network.http.max-connections-per-server", 8);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-proxy", 4);
user_pref("network.http.max-persistent-connections-per-server", 2);
user_pref("intl.accept_languages", "de, en, en-us");

You may simply edit your user.js if you have trouble downloading the
optimizer program.

sorry, I only wanted to help in concrete because N.C. posted problems
with the download and he perhaps did'nt read or have reachable the
earlier postings with the explanation about this 12 lines in the Mozilla
user.js.

BTW: This was one of the few and short postings I did in this NG. And I
tried giving some help on topic. Otherwise what ||3iff//ullins and some
others are posting OT, more times dayly, mostly with dozens of more than
unfriendly ever the same lines. *That* is really space and bandwidth
eating and what makes this NG more and more unreadable and not my very
rarely posting.

OK, I'll try reducing my wrting in this NG.

(Excuse my bad English but English is my 4th foreign language only).

No complaints from me. The more times I see information, the better chance
I have that it sinks in.

Also consider that there is the type of case that someone is reading news
through a bad server - one which does not deliver all messages. Or that
the poster who first listed the info might be in some readers' killfilters.
Or too, that the poster might be using the x-no-archive directive, thus not
making their info available via Google.

.. . .
OK, I'll try reducing my wrting in this NG.

Better suggestion. Have a few beers, then come back a post a whole whirl.

Jeez George, that's a little harsh. Cut him some slack, eh? He was
just trying to be helpful. Besides, I've often seen posts referred to
that for one reason or another didn't get propagated on my ISP's
newfeed. Maybe he didn't see the post in time or maybe he didn't read
the entire thread. I for one certainly click through a lot of the
stuff in this group without reading it.

There is discussion of these settings in the following thread in the K-
Meleon forums:
http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/forum/read.php?f=1&i=13988&t=13988

It's interesting to experiment with different settings, and they do seem to
speed up browsing. However, if you try to push things too far, you start to
notice an increase in red X's in your web page downloads.

Reminds me of the old windows 95 / ie3 trick to speed up web browsing by
turning off web images (which didn't make browsing fun now did it?) :)
