Moving Specs to Another Computer

I created some import specs for a large file on my computer yesterday. Is
there a way to save those specs and move them to another computer? I have
nearly 200 fields and do not want to re-create that file on another machine?

I'm sure there are some some more sophisticated methods, but I can think of
couple options.

1. Copy the database to the new machine.

2. Open the spec in advanced mode, highlight, copy and paste to Excel.
Then do the reverse on the new machine. I've used a variation on this
method to generate complicated specs in Access. I even use formulas to
calculate start positions based on field lengths and paste that into Access.

I can give you a more detailed breakdown on option 2 if you need it.

I also know file specs are stored in hidden tables in access, but I'm not
quite sure how to work with them.

I'll be interested in seing what the Pros come up with.

Hi Rip,

You can copy specs from one database to another. In the "destination"
database, use File|Get External Data|Import, select the "source"
database and click Options>> .

John,

Thanks for teaching me something. That options button must have always
been there, but I never noticed it.
