Moving printers to different USB ports

I have many USB devices and many USB printers connected on my system.
Several of the printers have multiple installs, using different drivers,
where each install is for the same physical printer, on the same USB port,
but with a different driver.

Occasionally, I have to physically move a printer, and it will end up being
connected to a different USB hub, which is connected to a different USB
computer port, and possibly will also use a longer repeater cable in its
hookup.

What is the best way to make the move? Is it to uninstall the printer in
question, and then reinstall it when it gets to its new location? In the
past, I've just moved the printer, and XP took care of things. But in those
cases, there was usually only a single install of the printer in question.

I'm concerned that if I let XP try to handle things automatically for a
printer that I am planning on moving now, and XP could handle this
automatically, how would it know which driver to assign. This would seem to
say that I should uninstall and reinstall using the driver that I designate.

I want to keep the same printer "name", as it is called in numerous macros,
and changing the name will require that I go in and edit all such instances
of the printer call.

Your talking about USB man- you can plug your printer into any USB port, at
