Moving from IDE to SCSI

Hi,

We have an Intel server here where we installed Windows
2000 onto an "IDE" hard drive. We want to make an image of
the disk and lie the image down on a "SCSI" hard disk. The
problem is that we know already it won't boot.

First, becuase there is no SCSI driver installed onto the
image on the IDE disk. Second, becuase the boot.ini will
probably be incorrect. Is this correct so far?

Can we boot off of the IDE hard drive, and install the
SCSI driver to fix the first problem. Can we simply edit
the boot.ini to point to the SCSI disk to fix the second
problem? What else might we have to change to get the SCSI
disk to boot up from an image that was originally
installed onto and IDE hard disk? Can this be done?

Thanks,
Todd

create image and check it is OK
restore image to scsi drive

disconnect IDE and set bios (you can leave CD on IDE
channel)
plug in scsi
set MB to boot from scsi
ensure that scsi card bios is set to ID number of the drive
in place
reboot (using scsi)
if this fails because no drivers
reboot from OS CD and have scsi drivers ready on floppy of
CD

I would initially do a repair install if you are using
adaptec scsi card
if you have more obscure or different card boot from CD and
press F6 where the process asks if you have any specific
drivers you want installed
install drivers - follow prompts
re boot
should be OK

good luck

Geoff
