I wish to transfer my emails from MS Outlook to Outlook Express. I tried to
use the import function and selecting Outlook but an error message pop up
about MS Outlook as below:
" Either there is no default mail client or the current mail client cannot
fulfill ther messaging request. Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as
the default mail client"

I opened up the Internet Properties under program tab and the Email shows
Outlook Express as the default. I change it and save. Upon opening up again,
it still show as Outlook Express.

Can someone assist me as I am using as a user and not the administrator of
the system.

"Please run Microsoft Outlook and set it as the default mail client"

I think that would be the key phrase.

Kurt, can you advise how to do that step by step if possible as I am opening
and exiting MS Outlook very often daily. Once in a while when I open MS
Outlook it will prompt me and everytime I answer as set it as default, it is
still not the default as I am being asked I think about 4 times now in a
period of 6 months.

Please do not be annoyed as I do not see how that can assist me. Anyone
wants to assist me.

I can't find that checkbox in the Tools > Options... > Other tab.
My MS Outlook is Internet Mail Only, Outlook 2000 SR-1

"Click the Windows Start button, and then click Run. Type outlook.exe
/checkclient. If your computer can't find Outlook, you'll have to type
the complete path to your Outlook.exe file, enclosed in quotes (for
instance, "C:/Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\outlook.exe"),
followed by a space, and then /checkclient. You can use the Find Files
or Folders utility on the Start menu to find outlook.exe. Click OK.
Outlook starts and opens a message box indicating which services are not
currently managed by Outlook, and asking if you would like Outlook to
manage these by default. For example, if Outlook has no default
priority, the message is: "Outlook is not currently your default manager
for Mail, News, and Contacts. Would you like to register Outlook as the
default manager?" Click Yes if you'd like all the options to be managed
by default; otherwise, click No." -

Kurt,

Thanks a lot for the added information. I was glad to see the prompt but
again after I click as YES it still not set as default. I check and check but
still not set as default to Outlook but still the Outlook Express is the
default. So I ran the "outlook.exe /checkclient" and it prompt me again and
again I click YES but still the default is Outlook Express. I am very in need
as I do not have much time to convert it to Outlook Express from Outlook.

Please, pleaseeee help...

PA Bear,

Thanks for the assistance in your reply, but I hope that I am not rude to
ask how this would assist me as I need to change my email default from
Outlook Express to Outlook. I really do not see how the information below can
help me. Please give me more info so that the below info can assist me.

I interpret the error you received...

....to mean that /no/ Mail Client had been configured as the default.

Did you try making OE the default and then importing the data from OL?

To import data from OL into OE, (1) OL must be installed and (2) OL must be
using the PST file you want to import.

Thank you PA Bear for the clear explanation.
Actually the matter of fact is that the OE is the default but the OL is not
causing the import function on OE to display the error message as below when
asking the import from OL.

Does this mean I have to make OL the default? Am I right to think this...

Despite OE being listed as the default, try fixes 1 and 2 that I posted
earlier and see if doing so helps.
