Moving Email received from an alias not working

Hi

I have setup a rule to move emails received from an alias (not primary)
email address into a new folder. But the rule puts all emails into the
folder.

I then tried setting up the rule to look in the header information rather
than the TO section for the second email address but then no email is being
moved.

Is their a known issue with setting up rules for email address that are not
primary email addresses in a mail box. I had added the email address to my
contacts so allow me select it from the people and distribrition list part of
the rule.

Using Outlook 2003.

Thanks
Ailish

All depends on the email account type that you are using which you failed to

Yes I understand that, but which mail protocol do you use to receive your
mail? POP3, IMAP, HTTP, Exchange, other?

In that case it is also important to know if this email address is an alias
on your private mailbox or a separate object within Active Directory. Your
mail admin can answer this question if you do not know it.

Within Exchange an alias is directly resolved to the object name holding
that alias and therefore the rule doesn't work based on SMTP addresses
anymore.

If you want to use Exchange mailbox aliases for sorting purposes this addin
might be relevant to you;
