movies on 5 to 4 ratio lcd's

I'm looking at an on-sale lcd with the 1280 x 1024 (I think it is) 5 to 4
ratio. When you play a normal 4 to 3 ratio movie full screen on one of
those, what happens? Does it have a blank band on the top and bottom?
Consistent from player to player?

Typically the 3 x 4 and 4 x 5 monitors will fill the screen, especially
when
driven at native format. If not in native format, *some* higher end units
may
offer you a chance to adjust the aspect ratio to that of the pixel format
through
the On Screen Display (OSD) - entry level units are not likely to offer
this.

Some players may also provide a chance to adjust the aspect ratio,
regardless of your display format.

There is no "magic solution" - but you should be able to make the result
appear as you prefer if you are comfortable with jockeying the controls.

Frankly most people can't detect the distortion of playing a 3 by 4 image
on a 4 by 5 display. YMMV.
