Movie Maker keeps freezing

HI

I have a few problems in Movie Maker i will list them as seperate posts,
just to keep the length down

First up my computer

ASUS F3JV Laptop
Core 2 Duo 2Ghz
1 Gig of ram
XP Pro Service pack 2
about 4 months old

Problem 2. Movie Maker keeps freezing

Movie Maker keeps freezing on me, usually during but not limited to, during
playback of the movie from the timeline.
Before i start i shut down all other applications and turn off virus
protection.
If i open the task manager to check CPU usage when this happens it is quite
often very low, so i don't think it has any thing to do with this.
Are there any other processes that i should be shuting down, or is a matter
of not enough memory i have 1 gig.

The project i am working on is using video from a mini DV camera imported at
high quality, as it may need to go to DVD later. there are a lot of clips any
where from 30sec to 2 1/2 mins in length.

This problem started early in the project when there was only a couple of
clips in the time line.
There is hardly any effects, only two clips have brightness used, other than
that there are a few titles overlayed through the project. And most of the
clips fade together. The overlap is very rarely more than half sec.

I know that some times these programs can be a bit tricky to configure.

Any help would be apreciated
Thanks

It is best to capture as dv-avi if you want best qaulity, as wmv even at
highest quality is already compressed.

There are no other files in your movie except the video files from your
camcorder?
No music? Stills?

If not, it could be a codec problem interfering, what other programmes have
you got installed? Try turning off all the filters in the compatibility tab
and see how that works.

1gb of memory will be fine, if it is working ok.
How big a hard drive?
How empty is it?
When turing off AV do you ensure you are disconnected from the net?
Turn off firewall, screensaver, powersave modes?
