Movie Maker & AVI files

I am new to this. I have a movie (video file) I made on a portable recording
device at 480X640 and it's an AVI file. I copied this file from the device
to my PC and imported the video into MM. I cannot see anything on the
thumbnail as I can if I import a WMV file, but it plays if I play it in the
player - video and audio. However, I can drag it to the story board/timeline
and it will not play video, audio plays. I seem to be able to trim it, add
transitions and external audio, etc. But the darn thing just doesn't play in
the story board. Help?

Possibly a codec issue. There are many different codec's for AVI files so
you would need the GSpot utility to see what codec was used to create this
file and you could then download the codec if available.

Alternately you could try converting the video. For conversion information
