Movie maker 2 Audio skipping bug

The movie maker newsgroup is down so I will try posting
here.

There is a distinct bug in the playback of MM2 movie
files. The added audio track skips whenever a video
transition is being run. I have seen others with this
problem on other forums. Wondering if MS has a workaround
or is addressing this obvious flaw. We have tried various
source files: WAV MP3 and WMV. Each time MM2 renders a
movie file the skip is created.

KB 812610 says this is MP3 only and recommends WMA to avoid
the skipping. However WMA and WAV skip just as much for me.
This doesn't happen on every transition, but it happens
enough to be a show stopper.

The only workaround I've found is to create your movie in
2 passes: first the video w/ its audio then add the
audio/music track. This way MM2 is not computing the
video transitions while it's mixing the audio - which
apparently is buggy.

This can be done using MM2, you don't neeed other software.
Using a copy of your completed MM2 project:
1) Remove the audio/music track
2) Save this movie (DV-AVI) (audio from video clips only)
3) Restore your completed project
4) Delete all video clips
5) Import the movied saved in step 2, add as a single clip
6) Save your completed movie

This should produce the exact same movie as if MM2 didn't
have the problem. Hopefully they will fix the bug soon.
