move XP

My current situation:

1 HD, 20GB:
Partition C: Primary, 10GB, FAT32, empty except for Boot files (had W98SE
before).
Partition E: Extended, 10GB, FAT32, W XP Home, apps, data and everything
else, the OS I use all the time.

Question:

Can I move everything - XP with all setting, apps, data - from E: to C:,
without reformatting and starting all over again?

Thanks and regards,

You could, but it wouldn't work so well as there are literally thousands of
registry entries that would need to be changed from E: to C: - it is quicker
to just reinstall - also, why you are at it, I would merge the two
partitions back into one, 10 GB is not a lot of room for XP as it contains a
lot of bloatware (i.e. bells and whistles). My windows folder alone (XP Pro
SP2 clean install) is 3.5 GB and I have a pretty basic install (Office 2003
Pro and VS.NET 2003). I don't have any graphics editing software, graphics
or music files.

Small Note: If you want to learn how to fix/do something, I'll point you to
it, but if you want me to do your work for you, it will cost you $50 USD per
hour - your choice.

No. There are pointers all over the place (in the registry and
elsewhere) to where things are installed. Moving as you suggest
will make everything inaccessible. You can move data, but that's
all.

No. The letter E: is pervasive through the registry by now. You have
two choices: retain the present partitioning but use third party
partition manager to reduce the size of C: to say 80 MB (something over
64 or error handling will be in trouble), or to clean off and start
over. Or of course just leave things as they are using C as a data
store

I'm in a similar situation to this chap. My Mesh recovery CD sent everything
to D drive (making that the larger) and I find it impossible to work from D
drive. C drive is small and I've reinstalled some software to get online.
Mesh didn't supply me with a Windows XP CD and can't get contact with them
sadly. Is there any way I can reformat without the Windows XP CD please?
