I would like to take XP Pro and Office SBE off an older 450Mhz PC and put
the software onto the my new PC ....Is this OK to do if I phone in and
Explain in order to re-activate.....The software is OEM and was bought with
HD and one with another piece of quipment .......otherwise can I sell the
old machine with the software on it and I would give the purchaser the
disks.....

OEM software is only for the machine it came with or was first installed on.

I did not buy it with any PC I bought it with a hard drive and I have only
used it for seven months on an older pentium III. I now have the money to
get a better PC and throw away the old 450 PIII and you are telling me that
I may as well throw away the software ....Is that correct ? If so I find
it hard to believe and I would certainly understand software Piracy
better..... as we speak I like to walk on the lighted side of the street but
Oh boy it makes you wonder....!!!!!

I don't know. It might work on a freshly formatted hard drive.

Hi,

OEM software is generally permanently tied to the first system it is
activated on, though it won't hurt to try. I would call in activation and
explain that you moved the qualifying hardware to a new system.

Ever tried reading an EULA?! I suggest you do so.

Not if it is OEM. That is licensed solely to the machine where first
install and may not be transferred - hence the cheaper price

MS doesn't want you to move OEM Software from the original computer, but
they have no way of knowing that is what you are doing unless YOU tell
them that that is what you are doing. If it has been more than 120 days
since you last installed and activated the software, then activation
should go through smoothly over the internet. If it has been less than
120 days, then you may have to phone MS to activate, just don't tell
them that you are moving it, just that you have done a major upgrade of
YOUR computer.

I doubt that she can even lie to herself that she is a nice person.

An OEM version must be sold with a piece of hardware (normally a
motherboard or hard rive, if not an entire PC) and is _permanently_
bound to the first PC on which it's installed. An OEM license, once
installed, is not legally transferable to another computer under _any_
circumstances.

Perhaps in the USA but not in Spain. You do know that this is an
international newsgroup, don't you?

Bill Gates would rather see more sales than movement away from XP..... he
states this quite plainly...... So if you become "too stiff necked dear MS
people" things may turn turtle...... a little "win win" was his original
philosophy...... at the time of DOS .... when there it was "dark and void
all over the world".
I advocate a little tolerance. Just like most of us have to do.

Oh, I read your post. But did you read your OEM EULA? I'd have to say
not, or you'd not even needed to ask the question.
