Move IMAP .pst file

Anyone know a way to move IMAP .pst files to another location than
\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\.... ?

Works to move regular .pst files and browse Outlook to it afterwards, but
IMAP .pst files are recreated on the same location.

I tried setting it in registry (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Windows Messaging Subsystem\Profiles\<your profile name>),
but then the Send/Receive button stops working. :(

Any ideas??

why do you want to move it? All messages are stored on the
server.

what have you changed exactly?

To: microsoft.public.outlook.general.
you have to move the file then edit the registry to match the new path. but
it's buggy and outlook often resets it.

since it's just a copy of your imap mailbox, why do you need to move it?
---
Its not "just" a copy -- it's a *very* large pseudo file system that
all sits
in 1 big file. Since it is written so often, it can often be
fragmented. One could
allocate a Hard Disk partition for frequently updated data that is
smaller and could be defragmented on a continual or frequent basis --
unfortunately, defragmenting
an Outlook file could theoretically make access times worse in
degenerate cases since Outlook accesses the *big* file randomly and bits
and pieces of the message are spread out all over the 100-300 meg (or
more) file. Worst case would be
if the outlook data file was fragmented in such a way as to have it all
in the
same physical location on disk -- just not in file-address order -- but
it could
be a more optimal order for the data stored -- thus defragmenting it might
move the more optimal layout farther apart even though the file would now be
ordered by file address (this is an unlikely scenario, but theoretically
possible).

Unfortunately, I don't know of anyway to defragment the internal
structure of
the file other than to recreate it from scratch and hope that the copy
operation
will copy data items in a linear manner allowing adjacent data to be
physically adjacent as well.

As for why do "need" to move it? Why does anyone "need" themes for
how their desktop looks? Does the reason matter? Why is it that when
people
don't know the answer, they try to dissuade the person from doing what they
want. It reminds me of going into a store for a particular product and
having
the sales person try to talk me out of the product because they don't
have it -- and
wouldn't I be much happier with a set of Ginsu Steak Knives instead? :)

Seriously...I wanted to move my home directories for all my users under
the directory "/home", since Documents and Settings is a rather non-descript
term for what the users' home directories contain these days --
documents, settings, pictures, music, video, program development
workspaces, etc....
It's more accurately descriptive and shorter to type. It was a pain to move
everything, since so many programs hard code things or store thigns in
their proprietary database formats (Mozilla and Netscape being two).

I need separate help on a Basic automation feature -- but I'll post that in
another message.

--- Power is a drug. This drug abuse has killed more people
than all 'illegal drugs' combined. Why don't we focus more energy on
treating this addiction and regarding it as the social evil it is -- i.e. --
worse than any street drug.
--- More people die from Tylonol overdoses and liver damage from
Tylonol, each year, than from cocaine overdoses.
--- There have been no recorded cases of marijuana overdose ever recorded.
--- over .5 million people die from alcohol and tobacco each year.
This is 50 times the amount of deaths attributed to all illegal drugs
combined.
