MouseWheel Scrolling back through Web pages.

I

Ian B

Microsoft Basic Optical mouse, Windows XP Pro (SP1) IE6 and Firefox.
When using the wheel to scroll down a web page all is fine. When scrolling up
the web page, the browser acts as if I had clicked the back button,
sometimes with disaterous results, when internet banking for example.

Only started with a clean reload of XPPro, tried several mice, all MS with
same result.
Must be a setting somewhere, anyone know where?

TIA

Click Start, click Control Panel, click on printers and Other Devices, click on Mouse, select wheel, make sure that number of lines is selected and not pages. Post back if you need further assistance.

Thanks for suggestion.
Strangely there is no setting in the control panel for this with the driver
installed.
I downloaded latest driver from MicroS with same result.
All mice tried have been USB mice with a PS2 adaptor.

In the end I downloaded a Genius driver which did the same thing so as a
workaround I disabled reverse scrolling in the Genius setup.
Weird.
I use an identical mouse on another site with same hardware (Dell) with
XPHome (not Pro as I have). This is installed as a USB mouse using a
microsoft HID mouse driver. Maybe PS2 adaptor is the problem.
Off the web scrolling is fine.

As a wrap up, problem disappeared when I un-installed "Microsoft
IntelliPoint 5.2" and installed "Microsoft IntelliPoint 4.12"
The idea came from a similar post in another newsgroup.

Hope this helps someone.
