Mouse with a mind of its own

I'm using a Logitech USB wireless optical mouse on a Dell Latitude D800
laptop. Recently the mouse pointer began crawling off on its own either
diagonally up to the top right corner or diagonally down to the bottom left
corner of the screen. When it does this I have to "fight" with it to get it
back into a stable state. I have uninstalled and re-installed drivers for
all pointing devices, including the built in touchpad. Nothing has solved
it. Any suggestions?

It may be to do with the surface you are using the mouse on, try a good
solid mouse mat.

Yes, thanks, I have a good mousepad (and I've experimented with others).
This one was working fine for months and only recently has the pointer
decided to fly off to the corners.

Have you tried disabling the built in touch pad to see if that stops it. It
is quite possible that there is a bit of dirt or something under the touch
pad in the corner making it think you are presing it. Also, could be dirt in
the optical receivers on the logitech mouse. If disabling the built in
touchpad does not work, try not using teh logitech and see. this will tell
you which one the problem is with. Usually dirt in one or the other.

I have a Microsoft 6000 mouse that periodically does that too. :)
