Mouse Wheel problems

J

Joe

Hello. I installed the latest mouse drivers for my mouse. The scroll
wheel works in most programs, but not in some. Any ideas?

See the Program Compatibility Wizard in Start\Programs\Accesories\Program
Compatibility Wizard.
If the mouse wheel works in some programs, it's not a mouse problem but a
program compatibility issue, some old programs don't work well with XP but
you can make some more compatible... try the compatibility Wizard.

How to use the Program Compatibility Wizard in Windows XP

will work in different versions of Windows.

Not so much incompatibility with XP as some programs simply don't
respond to wheel events.

Some programs just plain do not respond to the wheel no matter what you do.

Open Mouse properties and see if your mouse has some settings for this.
Some Microsoft mouse software does. I don't have any MS mouse software
anymore and can't remember where the settings where. Probably on whatever
the last tab is.

Start | Run | Type: main.cpl | Click OK |
Look under Wheel or Programs

My friend has the same program on the same OS and his wheel works.

That didn't help. My friend has the same program and OS and his mouse
wheel works.

Joe,

Your friend apparently doesn't have a broken mouse or screwed up mouse
settings.

Swap your mouse with your friend's. See if theirs works correctly on your
machine and if yours works correctly on their machine.

If yours works correctly on their machine, then it is probably some
setting(s).

If theirs does not work correctly on your machine, then it is probably some
setting(s).

Look at the settings in Mouse Properties on their machine and make sure that
your settings are the same.

If yours does not work correctly on their machine then something is wrong
with the mouse.

Get a new mouse.
