Mouse Stops Working

My mouse stops working sometimes. I have not yet been able to establish
a pattern. Just a few minutes ago I tried to wake up my computer from
the power saver sleep function and the mouse would not work. If I
reboot the computer it will still not work. If I unplug the 110V power
to the computer and then re-start it the mouse will function just fine.
If I start the computer in "Safe Mode" the mouse will work just fine also.

I am using Windows XP Home and the mouse is a Microsoft wireless mouse.
(I replaced the batteries in the mouse when this first started
happening about a week ago).

Any suggestions?

You did not mention what type of mouse you are using. Is it PS/2 (round
connector) or USB (rectangualr shaped)?

It is a PS/2 type of mouse
