Mouse speed slows down

this just started recently. i have a ms intellimouse
explorer (optical) plugged in via usb. it was working
fine for months. now what happens is that a few times
a day the pointer tracking speed suddenly drops.
if i used to be able to move the mouse all the way across
the screen with a quick flick of the wrist, i now have
to push it several times to get all the way over.
i can cure the problem by unplugging the mouse's usb
cord and plugging it right back in again.

this is a pretty minor irritation but i sure would like
to know how to eliminate it once and for all!

You may just be very hard on mice and the cord is damaged. Try a
different mouse.
