Mouse problems in excel 2003

Hey all

Im not too great with computers, and i have had a read of some other post
problems that sounds about the same as this one, but i cant work out exactly
what to do to sort the problem.
i run windows xp, and have SP1, havent got SP2 yet. the problem is only in
excel 2003
as soon as i click on the worksheet, the mouse appears to hold the click so
that when i move the mouse i select multiple cells.
the only difference from other problems that i can see is that i can select
anything else. once i click on the worksheet, i cant select any drop down
menus, i can close the application, i cant use any keyboard functions (e.g.
ctrl-s etc) the only was i can close the application is by using
ctrl-alt-del, even when i 'end task' the function, it comes up with a window
"cannot quit microsoft office excl" with an OK button only, i click on this
and windows goes into "This program is not responding" etc. so i click end
now, and excel closes. but this means that i cant use excel if i use a mouse.

Can anyone help? and help will need to be in simple language, i know how to
use applications but that is about it.

cheers in advance

Hi,

Make sure that Excel should not be Extended Mode for that press F8 and look
at
Excel Status bar is it showing EXT , if yes press F8 to turn off.
Also make sure that Sticky keys are off

I am having the same problem and cannot find ext shown anywhere and selecting
the f8 keys does nothing noticeable. Now what?

hey m8, the ext i shown in the bar that should be in the bottom right hand
side of your screen. it will appear in the area that shows you if caps lock
or overwrite is selected etc.
if there is no bar, then go into view and select status bar, and this should
show the status bar running along the bottom of the screen

but with regards to my problem (first post), it seemed to sort itself out,
EXT wasnt selected and sticky keys was not on, so i dont know why it was
doing what it was, but all is good now

cheers
