Mouse Problem

I was closing programs on XP before shutting down as
normal, when I clicked to close a program and then my
mouse froze on the screen and has stopped responding since.

I have tried re-starting the computer on numerous
occassions but the pointer is still in the same place and
is not responding. I have tried another mouse that is
working fine on another computer but that didn't help
either.

I should be grateful for any help.

i would try hiting f8 as the computer boots and go to
safe mode and restore to a point before you had the
problem if possible.
