Mouse dies on logoff or change users

I am running XP sp2 with a microsoft wheel mouse.
Sometimes recently when one user logs off and the screen
appears to choose another user the mouse pointer is no
longer visible, thus making it impossible to choose the
new user. This also happens intermittently when changing
users. I installed sp2 thinking something in there might
help, but alas NOT. Any ideas would be greatly

Go to device manager,uninstall the driver for the

mouse,reboot the box,when it comes up run the new
hardware wizard,and it should work for you,if you have a
disk for the mouse driver you should put in Rom drive.
