mouse cursor goes crazy

Since last week my mouse cursor sometimes goes crazy, travels on its own and
even seems to close down some applications so I have to re-boot.
I reckon I got some some virus - does the symptoms sound familiar and what
antidote can be recommended?
I have Innoculate on all the time and I run it separately on my drives - it
detected nothing

Check with the mouse manufacturer to see if there is a new driver available.
This could be that the mouse is having hardware issues.

What Ken said, but I'd also get a program to check for Trojans. Also,
if you can, check with another virus program.

I have the same problem with a Compaq Mouse, and whenever
the mouse starts jumping around the screen, I hear a very
soft sputtering noise coming from the speaker, and by the
way, I have headphones connected. HELP! It's driving me
nuts!

Crazy cursor behavior is often a hardware problem - bad mouse innards,
bad mouse cable, bad mouseport on the mainboard, etc. Intermittent
electrical problems in these cases. Try a different mouse.
