mouse click problem

This just started happening about a day or so ago...when i go to click on
something..it now sometimes takes 5 or more clicks to get whatever it is to
come up...even if its something that requires only one click or a double
click. I tried a virus scan and nothing came up. Any suggestions...thanks.
