Mouse click on a cell locks?

Whenever I click on a cell within a excel document the
mouse goes into multi select and I cannot end it.

I am running Excel 2000 with SP3

It is as if shift or scroll lock was on, but they aren't.
The mouse works correctly in all other applications.
I have tried another mouse and re-installing the drivers
but they all work correctly.

This all happened after in installed SP3 on my system.
I have uninstalled office and then re-installed. Still the
same thing before I even install a service pack.

A full update and then scan on our virus check and it
comes back clean. Anyone got any ideas?

Re-install the MS wheel mouse drivers, for I suspect this is what you have.
It was certainly a problem with this mouse some years ago. Loading SP3 has
probably disturbed the drivers

I have the same problem. When I open Excel and click on a
cell, the cell locks, and as I move the cursor around the
screen, other cells are selected, as if I were holding
down the left mouse button.

Nick: I had the same problem. I have a standard mouse.
I removed the mouse from within device manager, rebooted
the computer, and voila!!! It worked! Thanks!
