Mouse buttons won't swap

I have a freshly installed Windows XP system with a USB mouse connected.
I'm left-handed, so naturally I'd like to swap the mouse buttons. Problem
is, they won't swap! Regardless of the control-panel settings, the mouse
buttons are always "right handed".

This is a Microsoft Intellimouse Optical, with Intellipoint 5.0 installed.

Any ideas? I've uninstalled Intellipoint and re-installed, uninstalled the
mouse device and let PnP re-discover it - nothing seems to help.

Sounds like something is wrong with your Mouse Properties Applet. You
could also try:

Open Regedit and go HKCU-Control Panel-Mouse and change SwapMouseButtons
to 1

Sounds like something is wrong with your Mouse Properties Applet. You
could also try:

Open Regedit and go HKCU-Control Panel-Mouse and change
SwapMouseButtons

After much fussing, I was able to restore order by replacing Intellipoint
5.0 with Intellipoint 4.12. Go figure.
