Jeff

I started receiving various blue screen errors on my
Compaq desktop (XP Loaded), such as:
IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL with STOP:0x0000000A
(0x0000002,0x0000000,0x807d4Ad4). When I ran a virus scan
I would for sure get the error, other times as well. When
I tried to reinstall XP I get the error every time it
tried to copy the install files to the HD. So I replaced
the hard drive - error persists. When a friend put my HD &
memory in his computer he doesn't get any errors. What is
the next step I should take? I would think it would have
to be a problem with the motherboard or processor (note I
can't even boot my machine, as it blue screens even if I
try to boot from CD, reformat, etc.). The only
peripherials I have are keyboard & house attached. Thank
you.

Some things that it are definitely NOT faulty, given your description:
1. CPU
2. HDD
3. Keyboard + Mouse

I would make sure that you attempt to disconnect the 'house' from your PC,
too much 'non-compliant' hardware there [just kidding].

Some things you can do to check out your system:

1. Only insert one memory module and test if it will load / boot or whatever.
2. insert the other memory module and test if it will load / boot or whatever.
3. insert both memory module and test if it will load / boot or whatever.

This wil determine if one or more modules is faulty, sometimes if a good
module is in the fisrt slot, your PC will fail when memory load is increased
and the second module is utilised.

4. If the above doesn't help reveal any errors, try swapping the power
supply with your friends PC.

5. Check that you AGP card [if it is not integrated onto the Mobo] is
properly inserted into it's slot. If it doesn't sit level and firm across
all contacts, then it can cause your failure during installation of XP. Yes
PC can POST with imrpoper location, just good enough for basic colours etc,
but falls over when Op SYstem gets going.

By now you have worked down to the MOBO itself, and you'll need extra help
working this one out.
