most mail has a [SPAM] added to subject

Ever since I started using Windows Mail a few days ago, I have noticed that
almost all of my legitamite mail from businesses or from message groups have
had an addition to the subject line. [SPAM] They are still coming into my
inbox rather than the junk mail box. Even email I marked as not junk out of
the junkmail box is coming to me with that addition. What's going on and how
do I change this? It is not appearing when I check my email at the web
interface for my ISP (Comcast).

Thanks
Pamela

Could it be an Anti Virus application adding the [SPAM] to the subject
line? You may need to check the options and see if you can stop it from
adding to the subject line.

You need to check the spam filter settings on Comcast. They are the ones
adding the [SPAM] line. See if there is something on their website that
discusses it.

I went through the Concast site and chatted with a techy. This is the first
complaint they have had on this issue. We checked the spam filters and all
the settings, and nothing seems to have changed excpt my switch from XP and
OE to Vista and WM. This machine came with a trial of Mcafee, and so far I
hate it. It seems much more invasive than Norton! I plan to delete it as
soon as the trial period is over (which is with in a few days) and replace
it with Avast or one of the other recommended ones. I hope that fixes this
annoyance. I will post back if that doesn't fix the problem.
Thanks

Why wait for your McAfee trial period to be over?
The sooner you get it off your computer, the better off
you'll be.

Get McAfee off now. Since you are going to a free product, why put up with
it any longer.

Okay, I deleted McAfee and used their online tool to delete remnants as
well. So far (fingers crossed) the [SPAM] header addition has disappeared.
So you all were right in your estimation of the cause. I have formerly used
Norton, and despite all the known issues with it, it never added in a [SPAM]
header as one of them.

I have downloaded Avast, but not installed it yet because I wanted to watch
the mail for a day or two. Guess I should now install it.

Thanks
Pamela
