More memory

Had some Corsair memory ( 2x1024 dual channel ) that failed so brought some
Geil ( 2x1024 dual channel ) . When I recieved the replacment Corsair I put
it back in and no problems .Now was wondering if I would see any benifit by
putting all 4 sticks in the computer ? I would assume that the Corsair Ram
setting would default back to the slower Geil Ram settings ( the PC ran
quite good why I had the Geil memory in )

Basically I dont want to stuff the computer up but I have the Geil Ram
laying around doing nothing.

Suggestions ?

You don't specify what the RAM speed is, or what the MB is capable of.
IF your system supports a higher speed, it will default to the slowest RAM
installed.
Make sure you set it up properly for the dual channel to work.
There are 4 slots, in groups of 2; Bank 1, slot 1 and 2 and bank 2, slot 1
and 2.
The matching pairs should be put in channel 1, slot 1 and channel 2, slot 1;
and the other matching pair would go in channel 1, slot 2 and channel 2,
slot 2.

Try it and see. If you have two different speeds then I would expect the
bios to fall back to the slower - but try it and see. If it doesn't like
it then try swapping the order, it may be necessary to have the slower RAM
in slot A (one of my PCs only worked that way).

Whether it boots up is probably an adequate check, but if you want to be
certain then:
a. turn on the full memory check in the bios - this may be disabling the
quick boot or equivalent.
b. download a memory checker that will run in windows (sorry don't have
any recommendations, but I do recall there used to be a few free ones)
if everything seems fine then great. Any problems and wip out the slower
RAM.

Assuming your PC will take it then Vista will benefit from the extra RAM.

just a quick update......memory in and computer working ok
