Monitor

My computer did not shut down properly last night so it was on all night. The
next morning, I was told the monitor did not work. The on/off button just
doesn't work. You push it and nothing happens, as though nothing's plugged
in. The cords are all plugged in their proper place, yet it doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?

(I'm currently using a different monitor, one I do not like.)

If the power lights do not come on, it is most likely that the monitor is
burnt out. Usually, a monitor will do that in about 3 years, under daily
use. If it is new, you should contact whoever sold it to you for
replacement.

Since the monitor is bunrt, you need to replace it. Burnt tends to
mean "dead" for electronic devices. To get a monitor to work adain,
disconnect the older one and bring back to the place you purchased it
(if the monitor is under warranty.) They would have to replacing it.

If it is not under warranty, head to your local computer / electronics
store and buy a new one.

Whenever a monitor no longer works (dead, burnt) it is usually a lot
cheaper to replace it than repair it.

Where on earth did you come up with that 3 year figure? Do you think any
reputable monitor manufacturer can stay in business if the life expectancy
of his product is only 3 years?

There are many things that could happen to a monitor. A power surge for
example could cause a fuse to blow.
Normally the repair bill is so high it may be cheaper to buy a new monitor.
Is it a CRT or LCD monitor?
If you have no fear of power (make sure the line cord is disconnected) open
the back and check for visual things such as blown fuse etc.
Try plugging into a different AC outlet.

I think it was an LCD. Just sucks I have to replace it. That thing's been
with me for a while. oh well.
