Monitor setting for widescreen

Guest

I've just bought a widescreen tv/monitor.
My version of XP is about 5 years old.
how do I set windows to a widescreen setting?
At present, the best I can get is stretched to fit, not really a problem
with text, but
images are all fat.

Check the specs for your video card to see if it supports resolutions for a widescreen monitor. The screen resolutions you'll see in the Display Properties are determined by the video card.

Also, your widescreen monitor will have a native resolution that it should be run, check you monitor's manual. You may end up having to upgrade the video card to one that supports the monitor's native resolution.

You very likely can *not* do this with your present equipment. You need a
video card that supports the wide-screen resolution you want to use.
Especially if your video card is five years old, it probably does not have
that support. If that's the case, your only solution is to replace the video
card with one that provides such support.
