Monitor/Motherboard/Graphic Card problem????

V

Vassago

I was hoping somebody could help me with this problem...

Last night I left the computer running as it was backing up a DVD. This
morning I found the PC on with the monitor on stand-by and the DVD-RW Drive
open. I turned the monitor off and the on again hoping it would start but no
luck. I turned the computer off and rebooted it.

But all it does now is turn the monitor on stand-by, I know that it's the
computer doing it as when the monitor is turned on when disconnected I get
the normal 'No Signal, Please Check Connection' message. I've tried another
monitor but I get the same results.

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, an AMD Athlon Processor, and I have 778
RAM. I installed an ATI Radeon 9600 Graphic Card 2 days ago (although, I
couldn't find the previous one so that's still in there). As well as a
DVD-RW and 512 RAM.

I would extremely appreciate any help on this. I'm sorry if this is the
wrong NG to be posting to, if nobody can help, could they please point me in
the right direction? Thank You.

Lawrence Gardiner.

You should be able to boot up from yr winxp disk.
If not try physically removing the new vid.card.
The onboard vid needs to be disabled in the bios, or maybe disabled in
Device Mngr, if yr installing a new vid.card.

Remove the display card that you have recently installed and start the
computer. If it starts and the display is working , turn off the computer
and install your new video card. Immediately upon startup press the bios
entry key , (usually the delete key) and enter the bios . Scroll through
pages to find the one that contains onboard video. Disable it , press ok and
exit bios. Your new card should work and the default driver should run it .
Install current XP drivers. Good Luck . Jym

I've tried to take it out already, stil no luck - although i'm sure that the
problem lies with the fact that I never disabled the old video card in the
bios. Does this help?
